Catheterization Lab
CVI patients have the convenience of outpatient services for diagnostic coronary and interventional peripheral procedures.
What is Cardiac Catheterization?
Cardiac catheterization is the insertion of a long, thin, flexible tube (called a catheter) placed into a blood vessel in your arm, groin (upper thigh) or neck and threaded to your heart. Through the catheter, your doctor can do diagnostic tests and treatments on your heart.
All procedures are same day discharge and are performed by a friendly, well-trained team of professionals. Many CVI procedural services are offered at a fraction of the cost of the in hospital equivalent. Here at CVI, we are proud to provide complex invasive services that are safe, convenient and save our patients time and money.
What Catheterization Services are Offered?
- Right Heart Cath: A Catheterization via the venous system where pressures are measured to evaluate the venous return to, and pumping function, of the right ventricle and it’s contiguous compartments through the lungs.
- Left Heart Cath: A Catheterization via the arterial system whereby we use a contrast dye to visualize the luminal integrity of the native coronary artery anatomy, any previous bi-pass grafts, and perform a left ventricle angiogram.
- Aortic Angiogram with Run-Off: A Catheterization via the arterial system whereby we use a contrast dye to visualize the luminal integrity of the abdominal aorta and flow down the legs to the feet.
- Atherectomy: Use of an interventional device that removes plaque from inside the vessel using one of these four methods: orbital, rotational, laser, and directional.
- Angioplasty: The inflation of a interventional balloon device to open a narrowed vessel.
- Stent: An implanted device that is designed to hold the vessel walls open by outward apposition to the plaque in a significantly diseased segment of a vessel.
- Peripheral Intervention: Use of any of the above modalities to treat any of the vasculature outside of the heart.
- IVC Filter Placement: A temporary/permanent implant that prevents blood clots from migrating from the legs to the heart and lungs.
- Infusion Catheter Placement: A central line catheter that is tunneled and secured for long term temporary use for special infusions and/or dialysis.
